The Matrimonial Mishap - Oh My!

How excited was I when I got an e-mail, and then phone calls from friends asking me if I knew that my hubby and I were in the North Toronto post this month? Pretty darn excited. I love the North Toronto post, and was pretty elated when I saw a full page article about my hubby and I, and the mention of Penny People. And I obviously drove around looking for a NTP box at midnight, zipping around in our little Mini, trying to find ourselves a copy. I should have just gone to my Moms house - there it was proudly on the Kitchen island. ;) I giggled at the headline; "The matrimonial Mishap." It sounds as if we didn't mean to get married. How scandalous! (The reality is that our marriage liscence didnt make it to the ceremony). If you're in Toronto, you can pick yourself up a copy and read the whole story. ;)

Long Weekends are here again!

Although we're closed on weekends & Monday's already, this is just a reminder that the Penny People studio & office will be closed for the Victoria Day Long weekend. We will be reopen on Tuesday May 20th. Can you beleive how quickly the months are going by?! It seemed like yesterday the pile of snow was higher than our front porch. Now it seems to be the dandylions that are taking the cake on height. (Insert shaking fist here)

a little bit of sweet

We've moved, we've kind of unpacked, but the house didn't feel like a home until last night when I baked my first batch of cupcakes in our new home. I just loved the cupcakes so much I just felt like posting them.

Some other exciting news (as baking cupcakes is exciting!!)...

We are welcoming a new addition to the team, Elise, a student who is attending Miami University for Graphic Design. She will be interning with us for a month.

I hope everyone is enjoying this weather!

We're in our new space - update!

We're writting from our new space! Our new office is up and running, however we're renovating a larger space here to make even more room, which will start the Summer of 2008. We're not quite sure when that will be ready, but it's fun to start the planning process. We'll keep you posted with pictures once the demolition begins. Orders are continuing on on schedule, but we did experience e-mail delays and connectivity issues once we first moved in. After a combined time of 3 hours (not joking) on the phone, under desks with wires, and a few much needed coffee breaks, everything was back up and running.

Since moving in, we've experienced a wee-change, which we hadn't expected. Due to the renovations, the order pick up option is no longer available on PennyPeople.com from our studio. It was hard for me to come to this decision, as for the past three years, we've had this option available. It wasn't an easy decision for me to make, but it's truly because of the safety of orders, and for our clienst (since it is a renovation zone) that I chose to take this option off. If you're in Toronto, and would like same day shipping - we can courier your order to you - however at this time, and we're not sure for how long, order pick ups are not available.

We're Moving!

Penny People is moving to a bigger space! It has come time for the business to grow some more, and to hire more staff, so the hunt for a space started a month ago.

My good friend Darrell is a real estate agent, and started to show us places that would be good for us and the growth of PennyPeople. We found a beautiful place, with a HUGE space for Penny People in the Upper Beach area of Toronto. The news became final today - we are moving, and growing!

We'll give formal announcements to our clients about Order Pick ups, as the order pick up location will be changing mid January/ February, and order pick ups may not be an option for awhile, as we settle into getting the studio functioning. We'll be posting renovating pictures of the studio, as it's actually a full out "gutting and rebuilding" process for the area.

For anyone looking for an amazing agent, I truly recommend Darrell Brown - he made the process so wonderful and stress free. Shoot him an e-mail if you're interested - he's sooooo nice. His website is almost up, when it is, I will post it.

Ummm...We're not sure if we've mentioned this or not before, but we have a Facebook Group!

We tend to keep facebook pretty seperate from work - the reason being that we tend to forget to reply to messages sent to us on Facebook, so if you do want to contact us, send us an e-mail! But if you loooove your Penny People Stationery, come join the group, upload pictures of your Penny People Stationery and...well...hey, it's just for fun!

In METRO Newspaper!

How exciting! On Friday we were featured in the METRO as a place to get the cutest address labels! Eeek. We love it! Thanks to Lisi for mentioning us!

In SNAP! Newspaper

How fun! Penny People's "George Herman Day", a day where we donated 100% from all sales to Geroge Herman House, a home for women living with Mental Health Issues, was noted in the local SNAP!

A cute picture from an evenings festivities accompanies the article.

Baseball Shirts!

Well, it's not "news" but I love it! Every Wednesday night is baseball night, and one of the teammates had T-Shirts made for everyone on the team. Yours truly designed the logo, and as thanks, Penny People's logo was put on the shirts. Love it!

We loved Chocolat before, but now we LOOOVE it

What a wonderful suprise it was when I opened up Chocolat Magazine and found this on the very back page! We were one of Chantel Simmon's things "she loves best". Now, I wont lie, I hugged the magazine for a few minutes. A little birdie gave us the heads up, and I RAN to the Indigo at Yonge & Eglinton to go find a copy. I also forgot that hubby bought me a subscription, so now I have TWO magazines to hug. Sweet bliss.
You must check out Chantel's debut book, Stuck in Downward Dog. I'm going to pick it up for when we take a few weeks vacation as we lie on a dock, and dream of new paper designs.

Thank you to our amazing clients who do pass along our name, it's a honour to be recommended.
Hugs,
Lindsay & Team

We're delighted

Sweetspot.ca featured our George Herman House cards today under their Spotted Section. We're delighted that this card received a mention as we just adore it, and the cause it's for.

"You are: Thoughtful of others. We love a killer combo (poutine comes to mind), like this new philanthropic push from Toronto’s Penny People Designs. Quality cards, a cute design and customized name and font not enough? Add that 50% of the proceeds goes to George Herman House for women living with mental health issues.George Herman House Designer Card by Penny People Designs, $1.20 each; http://www.pennypeople.com/"

Penny People on a CD Cover

This isn't a new story, but more of a fun post! Whenever someone comes into our studio and looks at our "wall-o-fun" they always seem to stop at the framed CD Cover from Markus's "Lullabies & Dreams" CD, which we illustrated the cover for. It's pretty sweet! You can purchase the CDs online at MastermindToys.com. We do love the sleeping baby on the moon, soooo sweet!
